73 teams competed this past weekend on Lake Gaston as the Collins Bass for Cash visited Littleton, NC for our 4th tournament of the 2023 season. Michael Chlomoudis and Powell Kemp took the victory after they weighed in 16.54 pounds and just narrowly edged out Chuck Murray and Mitch Bunn who had 16.46 pounds.

This was Chlomoudis and Kemp’s 2nd victory in a row with the Collins Bass for Cash. This past May the team won our 1st Top Gun event of 2023. With their win Saturday they took home our top prize of $2,499, the 1st place side pot of $1,230, and the Ranger Cup contingency prize which was a bonus of $8,000! What an awesome payday!

After the tournament Michael Chlmoudis stated:

“We spent the morning looking for the topwater bite to produce a better-than-average size fish. We threw 4 various topwaters in areas that had produced in the past with limited success. Around 8:15 we were finally able to boat a limit but it was only about 9lbs. With the sun high in the sky we abandoned the topwater and went looking for a dock bite. We spent an hour or so with minimal success. Our 3rd or 4th stop dock fishing we were finally able to catch a quality keeper. We continued to run docks catching only non-keepers and small keepers.”

Sometime late morning we made a move to a stretch of the lake that has been good to us in the past and stumbled in to a couple of good fish. Within the next 45 minutes we were able to cull everything in the boat except the 3.5 lber. When this flurry was over we had the 16.54 we ended up with and were unable to cull the rest of the day. While dock fishing we used the standard approach (3/8oz jig, wacky work, neko rig, and a shakey head). We didn’t do anything special we just ended up on the right stretch of docks at the right time of day and made the most of it. All in all it was a tough day which we all expect from Gaston in June, we caught probably 15 to 18 fish all day with 10 or 11 of them being keepers.”

The Collins Bass for Cash paid out cash prizes to the top 12 teams in this event. It took 12.68 pounds to finish inside the Bass for Cash money line Saturday.

Youth Division Tournament

Winning the Youth Division Tournament was Clayton Baker and Casey Murray. They had  good limit of bass Saturday that weighed in at 10.82 pounds! They were awarded 2 Dobyns Fury Rods that were donated by Josh Powell and $100 in Academy Gift Cards.
